This stunning new coloring book by Johanna Basford takes readers on an inky quest through an Enchanted forest to discover what lies in the castle at its heart.

There is no treasure hunt in this book and so there is also no key of images at the back either. The images are printed double-sided with no border, normally this would mean a little of each image was lost into it but Johanna has taken on board the concerns of us colourists and has deliberately left the spine as clear as possible in the vast majority of the images so this frustration is mostly gone!

At the very end of the book is a double-sided fold-out poster with two different floral garden scenes to colour. If you need inspiration then head online to google, pinterest and Facebook colouring groups where there will be finished pages cropping up daily from people worldwide who are venturing into this garden of delights.

In terms of mental health, this book is brilliant because of its content and how beautifully the images are drawn. The line thickness is consistent throughout and is very thin so you will need very good vision and fine motor control to get the most out of this book.

The images are drawn with a range of intricacy and detail levels but mostly this remains high so again, you need good vision and dexterity.

The nature of the imagery in this book is superb for calming you down and helping you to zone out. I find nature scenes the best thing for calming down my anxious racing mind and this book really does that. There are ribbon images which could take you just a couple of hours to colour, centralised single images which will take a few hours, all the way up to jam-packed double-page spreads depicting perfumeries and potting shed shelves which will take days or even weeks depending on what mediums and techniques you use to colour them.

Overall, I would highly recommend this book. Lovely images and quality paper!

It's just overall fun. Date published: Rated 3 out of 5 by Shasky from Like it You can only use pencils in this book as markers bleed through and ruin the other side. It does take a long time to complete as there are tons of tiny details so I also got a book with pictures I can complete quickly so I feel like I have accomplished something. If you are patient this is for you Date published: Rated 5 out of 5 by Maggie from Another favorite!

Yet another book I couldn't put downlast winter. I love this artist!

Enchanted Forest

Drawings are very detailed, but beautiful. Can't wait for the snow to fall so I can sit by the fire and finish coloring this book! Date published: Rated 3 out of 5 by bookworm from an ok book Pages are thick, variety of images with a general story line.

Very small details that are tedious to fill in and are often repeated through the book. Date published: Rated 5 out of 5 by Alexia from Absolutely gorgeous!

This was the very first colouring book I downloadd and I am so happy with it!

Everything about it is just absolutely beautiful. Date published: Rated 4 out of 5 by Jane from Beautiful Beautiful pictures, but a bit too hard and takes too long.Strange to rate a colouring book but the art in this is exquisite, a mix of highly detailed to fairly simple with plenty of room for expression while colouring or adding details. The pages are highly detailed, and are best suited for well-sharpened pencils, gel pens or very fine-line markers.

Is it about ceding control of a task, or making something with zero pressure? Basford told The Guardian she had no premonition the idea would take off when she proposed the book that became Secret Garden.
